ABOUT THE CLASS
Eric Harris is arguably the industry leader in
ethics and risk management for coaches and other helping professionals.
He serves as the consultant to the American Psychological Association
Insurance Trust and in that capacity has advised tens of thousands
of APAITs policy holders by telephone about risk management.
In this class, Eric provides his own model for
evaluating legal and ethical risk. And he answers such questions
as: "If I'm licensed in Massachusetts (as Eric, himself,
is), where does the coaching take place? Can I coach across
state lines? What kind of coaching contract should I use? Why
is including detail about when I might breach confidentiality
so crucial to include in my coaching agreement? Can I see a
model contract? What if my coaching client suddenly seems to
need therapy? Can I coach former, clinical clients? (No--Eric
will explain the multiple reasons why you should not do this.)
What if I'm not a licensed helping professional--how
is my risk different? And, throughout the class Eric will focus
on practical ways to minimize the risk inherent in coaching;
what things should you never do. Why you go into business with
a coaching client (the stated "dream" of some coaches)
at your peril. Why you should know the potential problems if
you are paid by a percentage of a client's business profit.
Is coaching regulated? Will licensure ever be required? Eric
has heard every question there is. In this eight week class,
you will hear an acknowledged expert sharing the latest in this
always-changing field.
